Newcastle Magician – Magic Circle Close up Champion 2013

Nearly every Newcastle Magician is a member of the Newcastle Magic Circle! It was back in 2005 when I was regularly lecturing around the country and in the US that I went up to Newcastle to talk to the local magic club. They meet every month with an array of lectures, talks, workshops and social meetings. It is always a pleasure to talk to societies of this kind.

Given that it is so far from London they all know each other pretty well and have a friendly community of talented performers.

Having done my degree in Sunderland I was very familiar with Newcastle and the surrounding countryside. During my stay, I took a nostalgic trip back to my old student residence and had a look around the town. It has grown a very large shopping mall since I last visited, although some of the paint work at the Student Union hadn’t changed.

Being a Newcastle Magician isn’t easy! The city is a long way from some of the big cities in the midlands and there may not be the work that London Magicians can rely on.

However, they host the South Tyneside International Magic Convention every March which is usually sold out long before the doors open. Although they book many a Newcastle Magician, they also provide lectures and performances from magicians who fly in from all over the world.

It is testimony to this wonderful convention that many magicians travel the length of the country and beyond to attend.

I found the lecture to be most enjoyable with a knowledgeable crowd wanting to learn and exchange ideas. One never goes into a lecture feeling that you know everything and your audience doesn’t and I certainly felt I came away having learned a lot from a Newcastle Magician or two.

I have made several appearances as a Newcastle Magician in the past ten years at weddings and corporate functions and look forward to returning in the future.
