Manchester Magician & the Summer of 69
Manchester magician celebrates 1969 Manchester City win against Leicester in the FA Cup final. Apparently, it was a tense match leading to a one-nil victory. Neither the club nor the locals have forgotten this remarkable victory. Consequently, the club organised the presentation and event.
Forty years on, a benefit dinner was held in honour of the team that played last year and I was invited to perform close up magic at this corporate event. Most of the players are still alive and well and attended the function which was held at the Etihad Stadium in the heart of Manchester.
Above is a photograph of me with the team of 1969.
A high energy evening
Entertainment packed the evening. Indeed this included an auction and keynote speech. Players and managers took to the floor.
I guess it is every person’s dream to play on the Wembley turf. So few actually get to do it. Indeed even fewer come out winners.
It really did feel as if I was amongst greatness on that particular evening. As a child, my football was reasonably good and I played for school and local teams. I guess looking back I didn’t realise how far I was from the great achievements we were celebrating.
I also witnessed one of the best after-dinner speakers I have seen. Steve Daley, spoke of his life in football and had complete control over a boisterous room for forty minutes. Hosting the event, W.K.D Promotions. Michael (Braddy) Bradshaw hosted the proceedings. A very smooth night.
