Henley Magician back at Phyllis Court in Buckinghamshire

This was the second time that I had worked as a Henley Magician at Phyllis Court. I performed in 2014 at a private function for a company based in London in the Thames Room and I was back there again.

This time for a private party to celebrate a birthday. It was full of family and friends and included both close up and cabaret magic.

The Venue

This amazing facility was established in 1906 and is now a private members club situated on the Thames at Henley. It is a prime place to view the Henley Regatta with hospitality boxes at the finish line. So, it feels very spacious with eighteen acres of well-kept land.

It has many sports and activities available. These include croquet and rowing and interest groups, including wine tasting and theatre visits. In 2018 they intended to add a swimming pool and gym.

The sheer quality décor bowls you over as you walk into the lobby. It feels like walking into a 1940s luxury hotel.

Although it is a members club you don’t have to join to hold an event in one of its many function rooms.

Working as a Henley Magician

This was a five-table corporate event, with about eight guests at each. I managed to perform at each table before the cake-cutting. After the speeches, I did a short cabaret involving as many people as possible.

A week or so later I received this wonderful email from the host.

“I just thought I would let you know that very many of our guests commented about how much they had enjoyed the conjuror at our party at Phyllis Court. One even said that you were the best conjuror she had ever seen.”
