Plymouth Magician appears at Annabel’s for Comedy Night

Last week I performed as a Plymouth Magician in one of their local night clubs. I really like Annabel’s it is perfect for comedy magic. The ceiling is low and the room compact. It has an alcove on the side which means a few people can hide but it is a wonderful venue.

Working as compare gives you some scope to move from comedy banter to magic and visa versa. They also sport a joke writing competition after the interval which is always fun to run.

This is the second time I have worked at this venue as a Devon magician. Last year I travelled down with two comedians and played to a packed house. There were slightly fewer people hear this time but they were very vocal and the acts were again very good.

It makes a change from the close up magic which takes up most of my time. Although on occasions I am not as gig fit as others I like the atmosphere of these small venues. People often consider comedy to be the hardest job of all. I tend to agree but when working as a corporate magician you have to break into small groups many times, with comedy they are expecting you, which makes starting a little easier.

I am not new to Devon. Devious Minds, our stage magic show, has toured Tavistock and the surrounding area. We have performed at The Leaping Salmon and the Bedford Hotel. I have also performed as a Plymouth magician at other venues in the city.

Recently I performed in Tamerton Foliot at a similar comedy night. The travelling is considerable and it takes me away from home. However, the work is fulfilling and the rewards are there.
