Tring Magician at the Football Club

FC where Tring Magician performed

I have worked as a Tring Magician at the local Football club three times since I turned to professional Close Up Magician in 2002. In 2008 I entertained the committee at their annual Christmas dinner. In 2016 I entertained the players and their friends at a summer event. This time I was performing at the boards summer social.

The Club

In 1958 Tring Athletic Youth FC was formed. The club bought the grounds for around two thousand pounds. Its original mission was to nurture younger players so only those under twenty one could join. The team played against adults and won a number of trophies during the 1960’s, which included three wins in five years in the West Herts Saturday League. I have worked in hospitality for many premiership football clubs, including Chelsea, however, this was as good if not better.

The owners sold the Miswell Lane ground in the mid-seventies. However, the new establishment acquired it in 1992.

As we moved into the new century, the club invested a great deal of money in new facilities which included changing rooms and hospitality. So over the ten year period, nearly one hundred thousand pounds had been raised. The modernisation is evident when working at the club.

What struck me was the different atmosphere at each of these events. Working as a Christmas Magician all those years ago, guests were provided with a sit-down table served meal. Performing table magic between courses was the best way to go.

Working as a Tring Magician at the three events

When I entertained the players at their award ceremony, it was a more informal affair, and so I performed mix and mingle magic to people standing and chatting as there was no sit-down meal.

This time the club chose to have a buffet so although guests were sitting, it was still quite informal. The FA cup final had just taken place. Consequently, everyone was in fine form and enjoyed the magic.

I have been a Hertfordshire Magician for over fifteen years and am always happy to work in Tring.
