South London Magician at the Queen Adelaide Putney
This week I worked as a South London Magician performing magic at a family event at Queen Adelaide in Putney. This was a very mixed group of ages ranging from small children to grandparents. It took place on a Saturday afternoon with guests arriving from about 12.30pm.
I was booked to perform both close-up and cabaret magic, during their lunch.
The Queen Adelaide
This is a lovely venue in south west London. With a great deal of space and eccentric décor. It has a nice indoor area as well as a large garden. It is dog-friendly and books up quickly on a Saturday lunchtime.
Although I didn’t taste their food I understand it was excellent. It was certainly well presented.
The venue has regular entertainment including quiz nights.
The Magic
I performed close up magic for the first forty-five minutes. Followed by a pack of children I moved from one table to another performing trick. When this happens I always try to get the children involved even when they are seeing the magic for the third or fourth time.
For the last fifteen minutes, I performed a cabaret for all the guests. Again children were enthusiastic helpers and the adults enjoyed watching them participate.
Performing what I call family magic, is one of my favourite jobs. Although children can be difficult they have so much energy and want to get involved. Having been a father now for nearly ten years I know how important it is to see my children enthralled by entertainment.
It is hard now to get teenagers off their phones and tablets but I managed to get them to enjoy a trick or routine which made it is very worthwhile.
