Thames Magician TJ Shoesmith Aboard the M V Edwardian

I was invited to perform as a Thames Magician on the M V Edwardian. This is a beautiful boat which was apparently built by Richard Branson in the 1980s for his own personal use. It consists of a lower deck which appears to be modelled on a plush London club, with oak-panelled walls. There is also a bar to the rear of the boat and an open deck on the top from which one can see the London sites. It even includes a dance floor when required.

Small Gathering

The event was for a small number of guests although the boat can sit 60 or more. The boat had been hired by the head of a London firm to entertain clients. The afternoon consisted of a trip on the London Eye followed by boarding the Edwardian on the South Bank and returning to London’s Butlers Wharf Pier.

Mel from Oliver Myles, (a Boutique Event Agency with an impressive portfolio) was the event manager and kept everything moving smoothly. The open top deck really did give a spectacular view of London from the Southbank down to the 02 and back. I managed to take a few pictures of Tower Bridge.

I worked on the top deck for small groups before the meal showing them close up magic. Once main course was finished I performed a short cabaret at the dinner table. Once guests were back on the top deck I finished with a few of my favourites.

Thames Magician at Sea Again

This was my first time back on a boat since my days of Cruising with Royal Caribbean. I have another booked in for later this month. There is certainly a different atmosphere aboard ship and it tends to bring out the best in people.

I very much enjoyed the trip, although slightly choppy at times, the weather was great and the people fun and inviting.

TJ is a Magician working in London and throughout the UK.
